Common Safe Buying Questions
What size safe do I need?
Buy bigger than you think. Safes fill up fast, gun safes especially. A model rated for 24 guns realistically holds about half that once you add scopes and optics. Figure out what you are storing today, then go one size up. If you are torn between models, our guide on choosing the right type of safe walks through it.
What is the difference between a fire rating and a burglary rating?
They measure two different things. A fire rating is how long the inside stays under 350°F in a fire, usually 30, 60, or 90 minutes. A burglary rating (RSC, TL-15, TL-30) is how long the safe resists an attacker with tools. A cheap "fireproof" box can still be pried open in minutes, so for guns, cash, or jewelry you want both.
What is an RSC, and how is it different from a TL-15 or TL-30 safe?
An RSC (Residential Security Container) passed a UL 5-minute pry test, that covers most gun safes under about $1,000. TL-15 and TL-30 safes are tested against tools for 15 and 30 minutes with more attack methods allowed. The more valuable what is inside, the higher up that ladder you want to be, which is where our high-security safes come in.
Do I need to bolt my safe down?
Yes. A 500-pound safe still rolls out the door on a dolly in a minute or two. Bolting it to concrete or the floor is the single most important thing you can do, and it is included when we deliver.
Will a fire safe protect my hard drives and USB drives?
Not automatically. Standard fire safes are rated to keep paper safe, under 350°F. Digital media starts failing around 125°F, so drives and USB sticks need a media-rated safe or a media box inside the safe. Ask us and we will point you to the right option.
How much does a safe weigh, and can my floor handle it?
Safe weight varies a lot. Home safes run a couple hundred pounds; large gun safes and TL-rated safes can top 1,000. A standard home floor handles a typical gun safe fine, and we flag any second-story or weight concern before delivery, not after.

I had stopped by the office a few months ago to look at a brand of safe, Hollon, that I saw online but hadn’t seen in person. I had some questions and all of them were answered as the staff was very knowledgeable. Fast forward a few more months and I called the shop to ask about delivery to my area and getting the safe in the house. All questions were answered promptly. When I ordered the safe on line I got a call from the shop to confirm data and advise of all the next steps. Everyone was very helpful.
